Introduction

Established in 1891 by James Ayers Smith as the Intermountain Business College, Stevens–Henager College is a private, nonprofit, coeducational college operating seven campuses and three satellite locations in Idaho and Utah. The main campus is located in Ogden-West Haven. Before adopting its current name in 1959, the college was at various times known as Smithsonian Business College, Moench University of Business, and Ogden-West Haven Business College. Today, the school is known for its commitment to quality and for preparing students to meet the demands of business, technical, and medical career fields.

Stevens–Henager is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). The degree programs are accredited by their respective national accrediting bodies as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The college also holds other discipline-based accreditations, such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) for its Medical Specialties Program.

The college offers online and on-campus programs in a variety of career-oriented disciplines. Students have the opportunity to work toward associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Academic majors are designed specifically to meet the changing trends and requirements of today’s employment markets. Online classes are offered by Independence University, an affiliate of Stevens–Henager. Admissions

Students seeking admission to Stevens–Henager typically begin by making a phone call. Afterwards, students should arrange for a visit to one of the college’s several locations, where they will fill out a Career Questionnaire and meet with an Admissions Consultant. As a career-focused institution of higher learning, Stevens–Henager encourages students to begin thinking about long-term planning from the moment they apply.

International students seeking admission to the college must have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from any accredited institution, must achieve minimum scores on the TOEFL or IELTS, and meet the admissions standards for all other students. International work-study programs are also offered for students who wish to take up part-time or full-time jobs in their career field, both to gain necessary experience and to cover their educational expenses.

Financial Aid

Stevens–Henager extends financial aid packages to those who qualify, based on the principle that all students deserve equal educational opportunities. Financial assistance is primarily offered in the form of grants and loans. All applicants seeking financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online.

Many students qualify for financial aid in the form of federal grants, which do not have to be repaid. These include the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). Loans, on the other hand, must be repaid along with any accrued interest. Some of the loans offered at Stevens–Henager are the Federal Perkins Loan, Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and the Federal PLUS Loan (for parents). State and institutional aid may also be available: these sources of aid can be either need-based or non-need-based.

Stevens–Henager also offers benefits for active duty military, reservists, veterans, and their family members interested in pursuing higher education. The college coordinates the the Department of Defense to determine eligibility for various benefit packages. In many cases, practical experience gained while on duty can be transferred as college credit.

Students

Students at Stevens–Henager run the gamut from recent high school graduates, to international students, to working adults who perhaps earned their GED later in life. The college faculty and staff work hard to ensure the needs of all these students are adequately met.

The Career Services department is an integral part of the experience at Stevens–Henager. Career Services staff provide an array of services to help students prepare for and attain their desired career goals. The department achieves this through new student orientation, special events and job fairs, a graduate exit interview, and a course in professional development.

Stevens-Henager administrators take pride in creating campus and virtual environments where students enjoy convenient access to faculty and the resources necessary for success. The college has fully embraced technology, and all students log in to their courses and view digital materials via the LearningStudio application.
