I am currently a student in the massage therapy program at miller motte college in lynchburg va. I have found the massage therapy instuctors and staff caring, knowledgable of the material, and helpful.I like that the class rooms are small which enables everyone to get to know each other on an easy basis as well as have lots of hands on training. I find the instructors to enjoy what they teach, approachable and wanting their students to succeed in their massage career.

I went to miller-motte charleston sc. we had a massage therapist/esthetician for our instructor, she was very knowledgeable but guest what we had her for the first month. Then we got an instructor that knew nothing and did nothing. All they wanted us to do is work in the spa for 3 month that is how they get you in the begining telling you that you will be well qualified after all the training you will have. bull if you are planning on going their do your homework and dont let their private rooms fool you. THe admission dept. is on a quota so they will tell you anything. Go back and ask them in a month they will plead the 5th. At the time I went the reps that bought us in were fired during christmas. We came back and everybody was new in admission but katie and she will sell your underware of your back if you know what i mean. I can only speak for the Esthetics Dept. and if you want to do makeup the instructor doesnt wear anything but foundation so that's your training. better yet we skip makeup only what you need for board will be taught to you. Go fiqure

I went to Miller Motte for the esthetics program, it is by far the worst program ever. The instructors are not knowledgeable. I had a "massage therapist" teach me, she knew nothing about esthetics. She lived in PA and she was grandfathered into the program, she never took any test!!! I wasted tons of money on this program now and I am not doing what I love to do!

I went into the esthetics program at Miller Motte. They butter you up talking about how they help their students find jobs.I found that the teachers are not even etheticians themselves! I was taught by a hairdresser who made it in just because she had a cosmetology license. She mispronounced words all the time and I was able to disprove her on things she was teaching us several times by some past education and backing it up with the Fundamentals for Estheticians book we were taught from.As of now.....it has been almost 2 years and have not used my education once.I work at a bank.As far as them helping you find a job...all I got was a sorry example of a resume. In the exit interview Ms. Barker actually said"Now my job depends on you finding a job,so if you are doing anything even REMOTELY close to your field please right it down" At the time I was working at a cosmetic counter at a position I had a whole year BEFORE puting that down. She knew where I was working whenI applied to the school.SHe wanted to take credit for that?I don't think so.As for my education...I feel highly unqualified to do over half of the procedures that being an esthetician requires.I know two of the instructors right now.One was in my class,so she was taught by a hairdresser too. When I asked how she was going to react whena student asked her something she doesn't know, she said she would make something up.The other instructor is a massage therapist. What do they know about skin care? I will give her the fact that she has a good touch and can make people feel good. But that is not all that an esthetician is.All this school wants is your money.

As a recent graduate of Miller-Motte's Surgical Technology(ST) program I find the "education" I received to be pretty much worthless. And Miller-Motte as deceptive to their students. I was lead to believe upon enrollment (by ALL written material available to me, provided by the school- i have kept the copies) that the program was an Accredited one. I (my class) was not informed of this until 6 months into the program. The reason I was informed at that time is because the Accrediting Committee needed signed acknowledgement from the students that they knew they were attending an unaccredited program, we were told in the middle of a semester and informed should we drop out now we would be liable for all loans to date as well as payment for the rest of the semester. The Director of the program (given the job by default) was dismissed from her job and failed to complete a mandatory rehab program. She has also posed wearing a dog collar on the back of a motorcyclye for the website of a local bar. Sounds like the bottom of the barrel to me. As a result CentraHealth (who is the largest single employer in this area of surgical personnel 80% +/-) strongly do not wish to hire Miller-Motte students. Largly in part due to animosities toward the Director of the ST program. Many times in the course of my classes there was a noticible shortage of instructors available and often a course was taught by someone unprepared to be an effective instructor in that genre. Bare minimums, and loose generalities were the theme. The ST program has since been accredited, however at my time of graduation (6/07) there was one externship site available for the students to complete their education. I only did 6 weeks of a 12 week rotation because 1). the hospital I was at was discontinuing their association with Miller-Motte. 2). there was no other site available to Miller-Motte for them to send me. 3). I had signed an 18 month contract for my education. My time was up. According to the regulations of the Accrediting Committee this is a violation of Accreditation status of the ST Program, the status of the school's accreditation could be yanked at any time were they to find out. The bulk of my classmates (many "A" students) are working jobs at Wal-Mart and the mall, with little hope of employment in the field of their education in this area. Miller-Motte has been cranking out Surg Techs in a number that cannot be supported by positions available, also a violation of accredited status. Not to mention the wasted money, time, and efforts for a great many people and their families, single mothers, mid life career changes, young kids just out of high school, victims of down sizing among them. During graduation students were graduating with honors that had been tested and proven to be habitual drug users by the numbers of their levels, what does that say about the administration? I believe money is the bottom line. A bird in the hand. Think twice before allowing yourself to be sucked into the posiitive spin put on the "education" offered here. The credits earned here transfer nowhere! You are better off going to CVCC their crdits will go nearly anywhere.
