Apparently the individual who stated the comments regarding Kerri obviously do not know the facts. She did finish school at Raphaels within the 2 years because she did attend every day as required. She did not accept the "free" hours given out to those students who brown nosed so they could "finish" early. What she did forget to mention that shows the character of this school and the instructors was that during my attendance I witnessed several "black" students who chose to spend their theory class on the roof smoking pot. The school does show discrimination as none of these students were never repremanded. The incompetent instructors have since been fired if that doesn't speak words. The school is a joke. The school is all about making money. I know several student who had to retake their boards on account of incompetent instructor. Do not waist your dollars and time with this school. Go to Casals. AMEN.

I also attended Raphael's at the same time as kerri and remember her as a student. She was negative when she was a student and I feel she seemed to never be happy unless there was discord and chaos around her. If there were none, she would create it. And she wasn't there for just 2 years. It took her almost FOUR years to finish because she never showed up for class. I remember the leak in the roof also, but the school was hardly unsanitary or in disrepair. If something broke, it was fixed. And, yes, there were ants in the student breakroom in the summertime but that was because so many students felt they didn't have to clean up after themselves and left trash and food laying around. The comment kerri made about "mouse droppings" and "other" rodents is a complete fabrication. The State Board of Cosmetology came in to inspect the school often and the school never failed inspection. And as I understand it, the State Board of Cosmetology is VERY strict when it comes to sanitation. I read in industry publications about salons being shut down all the time for not following state sanitation rules. It upsets me when people get angry and say negative things about a company, school or organization because they were forced to follow the rules and were held responsible for their actions. I saw no discrimination based on race at the school, however I did see students try to use the "race card" when they were held accountable for their actions (or lack thereof). The instructors were knowledgable and helpful. We were trained on SO MANY different types of product...Paul Mitchell, Sebastian, Matrix... I saw many students not take advantage of everything Raphael's had to offer because it was easier to try to make trouble when they didn't get their own way. If you go to any salon in this area you will meet at least one stylist who went to Raphael's. They've been around forever so they must be doing something right. My advice is to not even waste your time at another school because you'll probably end up switching to Raphael's eventually any how. And when you read negative comments from people you should always remember that there are three sides to every story...and that negative comments usually come from negative people. Thank you to all the Raphael's instructors and staff! I enjoyed my education experience with you and I know many other stylists who feel the same way! Keep up the good work!

To Whom It May Concern, I was enrolled as a part time cosmetology student at Raphael’s School of Beauty in Boardman, Ohio. During my attendance, I encountered unqualified instructors, unstructured education, inconsistency in educational instruction, unavailable supervised instruction, unprofessionalism, unfavorable conditions regarding public health and safety, and discrimination based on race. I am frustrated and disappointed with the quality of education I received from Raphael’s. Raphael’s objective, as stated in their handbook and web site, is “to thoroughly train all students in all phases of hairdressing, including cutting, styling, permanent waving, hair straightening, tinting, manicuring, facials, makeup, ....” During the two years attended, I never received this “thorough” training they promised. I repeatedly asked for haircoloring instruction from numerous “qualified” instructors, who claim they “know nothing about color”; some students have even went to the extent of calling the 1-800 phone number for Paul Mitchell consultants to walk them through instructions regarding color at the school. To the best of my knowledge and experience, most of theory class, which is held during the hour between 9 and 10 am. Tuesday - Fri., was spent sharing each others previous nights entertainment, instead of the instruction required by the state. I find that how this establishment is conducted is unprofessional, as I witnessed several indecent comments made by those employed and represent Raphael’s. As stated on page 14 in this school’s catalog of general information, Code of Ethics-#9. “This school advertises truthfully and makes honest representations to its students.” I am ashamed to admit that as a victim of this comment, and knowing what I have experienced through this school, their truthful and honest representations to students is misleading. #8. “This school purchases only high grade standard equipment and supplies to be used for the instruction of its students.” This statement could not be further from the truth in that several supplies used are in desperate need if repair or aren’t even offered. I also find it amusing that Raphael’s prides themselves as being a Paul Mitchell school when the students are not trained with respect to this product line. Public health and safety issues are a major concern as this establishment has been negligent in repairing, maintaining, and overseeing numerous current, as well as potential problems regarding the safety of the public and health issues concerning sanitation. The ceiling is caving in due to the extent of water damage throughout the school. Their resolution to the problem is to place a garbage can under the “fountains” of water. This is a potential problem with the elderly clients that are serviced at this school in that it is an invite for injury. As well as water on the floor, scalding hot water at the shampoo bowls is a continual issue and danger. It is my understanding, according to this schools “truthful and honest representation”, there is to be a breaker in order to prevent this problem, but students are “trained” to say “water on” and “water off” instead. There has been a sanitary issue with mouse droppings in the student lounge kitchen cabinets, ants, and other rodents sharing the premises, even to the extent of residing in the candy machine that is available and offered to the public. There isn’t an adequate, if any, medical supplies to accommodate the students and clients. To my knowledge, the only time medical supplies are available is when students provide them themselves. I have only hit the surface regarding this schools performance and conduct. I seriously recommend that if you are interested in attending cosmetology school that this school be your last resort.
