Introduction

DeVry University was first established in Chicago in 1931 under the name DeForest Training School. The school was established to train students in a variety of technical work. In 1968 the school became DeVry Institute of Technology. In 1987, after it merged with Keller Graduate School of Management, DeVry Inc. was formed. Over the years the conglomerate has begun a variety of other schools, including Ross University, Apollo College, Western Career College, Chamberlain College of Nurshin, Fanor, and Becker Professional Education and Advanced Academics. The Columbus campus is one of 90 throughout the United States and Canada.

The university focuses on training for careers in technology, science, business, and arts, offering a combination of over 40 bachelor’s and associate’s degrees within 4 different programs: College of Business & Management, College of Engineering & Information Science, College of Health Sciences, College of Media Arts & Technology.

Keller Graduate School of Management offers programs in 6 areas of study: Business Administration, Accounting & Finance, Human Resources, Project Management, Public Administration, and Technology Management. Within Business Administration (MBA) students choose from 15 concentrations.

Admissions

The university purposely makes their admissions process simple and straightforward, so as not to deter you from achieving your education goals. Whether you are interested in earning your bachelor’s, associate’s, or master’s degree, the first step is to call the Admissions office to set up a mandatory interview with an Admissions Advisor. Once that is done, you can complete the application online, which takes no more than 10 minutes.

To apply, you must meet a few prior educational and skill requirements. You must be 17 years of age or older by the start of your first day of classes and you must have a high school diploma (or equivalent, such as a GED) or a post-secondary degree, meeting specific grade requirements for both. Transcripts must be submitted in order to prove these requirements have been met. The admissions department also requires that the ACT or SAT exam be completed.

The New Student Specialist Office is meant to make the registration process smoother for students by helping to fill out forms, meet requirements, discuss goals, and get to know the campus. This is done through meeting with your individually assigned Specialist and participating in activities such as Discovery Days, a day dedicated to new students.

Financial Aid

Tuition rates depend on how many credit hours you are taking per semester; your first 11 hours are all charged at the same rate, and your 12th hour and above are charged at a decreased rate. Students have a variety of financial aid options through both scholarships, grants and state funded programs, loans, and payment plans.

All students should fill out the FAFSA, Free Application for Federal Student Aid, to apply for available federal grant programs and federal loans. Other grant and state-funded programs are available for those currently in the military, veterans, and surviving relatives of military personnel, civil servants, and rescue workers who died as a result of the 9/11 attacks.

The university offers 4 different scholarships for full-time students. The scholarship audiences cover high school graduates as well as community college graduates, and amounts offered begin at $1,000 per semester. Application for the available scholarships is not necessary since applicants for admission to the school are automatically considered.

Students

For those who are interested in housing services, housing is provided by Collegiate Housing Services. Shared housing in local apartment communities are fully furnished, include most utilities in the price, and prohibit drugs, alcohol, and violence. Your community may include a pool, lounge area, laundry machines, and recreational areas such as a basketball court, a ping-pong table, and a pool table. Housing representatives can be found on campus to assist you with any problems or concerns you may have.

The Student Association creates a community atmosphere on campus by planning events and activities, and helping the other student organizations on campus.

The Columbus campus offers both an on campus and online library, full of resources for students to use. The Information Technology department offers computers with internet access for use as well as technical support.

Accreditation

Accreditation is granted by the Higher Learning Commission. The university is also a member of the North Central Association. The US Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology accredits many of the campuses’ Engineering Technology programs, including the Columbus campus. The Master of Project Management degree at Keller Graduate School of Management is recognized by the Project Management Institute’s Global Accreditation Center.
