Fellow peers, I attended Mary Holmes from 1974 -1976. As a poor black man in Louisiana and the 4th oldest of a single parent female led home, I was honored and highly blessed to be chosen as deserving an education and funded to get an education in Mississippi. My sister, Veronica Kendrick and brother, Russell Bradley started at Mary Holmes before I did in 1973. We are eternally grateful for the investment in our life - made by the Presbyterian Church. The nurturing and love shown my the school administrators, teachers and staff, molded my christian life and taught me to not let the racism of the civil rights movement break me or define me. I was fascinated when I met Stanley Marsh In Amarillo, Texas at a Board of Trustees meeting, I was representing the Student Body as the President of the Student Government Association in 1975-1976 school year. At that time, Stanley Marsh was the primary funder that cared enough to help a school in Mississippi teach blacks -- and that aided in springboarding me into a life of self-esteem and success. There should be more books or a movie on this since so many blacks were educated in Mississippi when we could not afford it on our own. Blacks for many surrounding states came to Mississippi and left enabled to change the world. i believe many have lived up to represent Mary Holmes Junior College well!!! Does anyone out there feel me and see the need to post a big 'thank you' to our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ for intervening and making a way for us at Mary Holmes Junior College? We have soared on as Eagles coming out of that nest!

I attended mhc 1976-1978 when Dr Richard Tucker and James Moore were on staff...I enjoyed the spirit of the other students...Moving from over crowded Chicago to this very rural area was so refreshing...I met a host of beautiful women and awesome bruthas that quickly became like family...I will be forever grateful for the experience..and wish it was still around to inspire another generation of hopeful young men and women...Bless those that helped the cause..

Mary Holmes was a terrible college from the late 90's to the early 2000's when it was shut down. There numerous violations of civil rights there. The college was run by bunch of "TOMS" collecting government money and not putting anything back into the school. I had the misfortune of attending that school during that era and it was total anarchy there. The staff disposed of all the pay phone and chain locked the dorm doors. They did their best to make us feel like prisoners. I am glad they shut that hell hole down.

I am a proud MHC gradute! I loved everything about MHC. Coming from Chicago, IL to a smaller town was one of the best decisions my mother could have made for me at that time. I enjoyed all of my professors and MHC was where I met my BFF and my college sweetheart and still the love of my life. I am going to look into how we can re-open this institution to continue to educate the wonderful minds of the future to come. Will keep you posted.

I am a proud product of Dear Mary Holmes, from '91-'93!!! I loved being there and the experiences were the best of my life! I truly valued my professors and they were very attnetive to their students. I met so many wonderful people there and learned so much. It broke my heart when it closed, but "we'll love thy name forever." Much love from 6'9.

I was an English Instructor for the 96-97 school year. This was my first full-time job after grad school, and I remember it fondly. I really loved the feeling of community on the campus that's just not there at a larger school. I was just sick when I heard that MHC had closed. I can't imagine how a place with that much history could be abandoned.

Hi everyone I also attend Mary Holmes College in 1983 - 1985. Those were the best years. I which that I could find some of my friends from back then. My favorite teacher actually was not a teacher. It was Pauline Erwing. She was the best. Although, all of my instructors were the bomb.

I worked as a media specialist and instructor (Biology, Science, Anatomy and Physiology, Mass Communications, and TV Production) at MHC from 1989-1992. I thoroughly enjoyed the three years of working with the students and faculty/staff. West Point is a great place. Since I left MHC in 1992, I have earned a doctorate and am employed in Orlando, FL, evaluating and designing training programs. Unfortunately the school physically closed a few years ago, but the memories will be cherished for years to come. To all who had some connection to the school, I thank you for a great experience.

Hi My name is Rose Shinal and I attended Mary Holmes College from 1971-1974 and I trully enjoyed the small campus experience, as well as the teachers and faculty, when I attended it was about getting an education not the money, I remember the dean told me that if I wanted an education, they would take care of the money, and they did just that.
