As a former student of SR I would suggest to prospective students and their parents that they search elsewhere. For while the classes were intense and my education very liberally through, SR's attitude towards "conservatives", and this would be anyone who is not a member of the communist party, and also to those with religious viewpoints, especially Christians is one lacking understanding and compassion. The drug use on campus is also rampant and not exactly frowned upon. In fact it is not uncommon for a "forward thinking" teacher to join in the sharing of a blunt. This however feels natural there, as a blunt begins to seem much like a cigarette when your dorm mate has infected the whole hallway with crack. Finally, SR's attitude towards parents is not very good, at times I would go so far as to say hateful, as some of their mottoes seem to indicate to students that the time for parents is over, and that it doesn't really matter anyhow, because their parents never really loved them. If all this has not stopped you from applying, then my final warning to you is this, STAY AWAY FROM THE COUNSELORS! They will go out of their way to convince you of your instability and will try their hardest to force you onto some mix of pills. Then again they might just tell you, as they told a friend of mine, that getting laid will solve everything. Because coincidentally 80% of students marry each other, and 10% never marry. Alumni and faculty like to say that SR will never leave you, and through the reverse sentiment, you will never truly leave SR. I have found this to be almost entirely true, and certainly cult-like. Good luck. A former student
