Regarding Tamara Cox feeling cheated about your counselling education, my only advise is buyer beware.
I am writing as a graduate of the MA program in Professional Counseling. I graduated Summa Cum Laude and felt, at the time, that the program was a good one. My practicum experience was rigorous, but I felt that it was worth the expense and effort. I completed my practicum with a local non-profit mental health clinic and developed a close professional relationship with my supervisor who encouraged me to apply for a position as a counselor upon graduation. It was at that time that I discovered that the Missouri Licensure Board would not allow me to sit for the PLCP test me due to the fact that my classes had been long distance courses. I remembered that one of the professors, Dr. T. Gunnell, had told my class in a professional development course that the university would assist with these types of problems. I then contacted Dr. D. Bertram and talked with him several times, but the stand by the Mo licensure board was the same. I now have a Masters degree in Professional Counseling from a non-CACREP certified school and can not sit for licensure in the state of Missouri. I spent almost $60,000 for an advanced degree that is virtually worthless on the marketplace as it is a requirement in most states that a counselor must be licensed. I would like to know if there are other graduates of Regions University that have had the same experience. This has been a huge disappointment and I see no way to rectify the situation. I feel cheated.

I am a graduate of Amridge University formerly Southern Christian University. I am currently studying to take my exam in the State of Arkansas. Before I made my final decision to attend this University, I contacted the State Board to find out about online schooling and their accreditations’. It was then I found out about the entire University. It was recommended to me from the Licensure Board. I enjoyed my time at Amridge University (06-08) and yes, I had a few bumps in the road but who said online school was going to be perfect. I would advise anyone to follow up and do your own homework rather than depending on someone else’s information. I had both Dr. T. Gunnell and Dr. D. Bertram and both very good Professors. I have Dr. Bertram for two courses and both times he seemed to go above and beyond to me. And I lost my husband the first semester I started and I was taking Dr. Gunnell, he did an outstanding job of working with me assuring I completed all of his assignments under the circumstances. I recently got the opportunity to meet with Dr. Bertram, Dr. Trent and other students and graduates face-to-face at the AAMFT conference in Memphis, TN along with others who or whom attended the University. I have recommended Amridge University to several people and intend to continue to do so. I would also suggest to anyone, read the fine print and do your own homework... GO AMRIDGE UNIVERSITY!!!
