It was a sad day when the oldest learning institution in the state of Alaska closed its doors, presumably forever, in 2007. Having graduated from there Summa Cum Laude in 1999, I've stayed up to date on the proceedings as they unfolded. It was considered for purchase by Dubuque University, then the deal fell through and it was in limbo for awhile. The city didn't seem to want to help with approval votes of some important decisions that would have given the Board of Directors wiggle room to stay open or reopen the main campus. With the $10 million debt incurred over the years, the interest alone was a big reason none of the offers to buy the campus could go through. No one could see a way to make the school work while paying that monstrous monthly interest. In all of that, I never heard any rumors of an "investigation" though a number of the administrators have been less that wise in their handling of college moneys.
